With this package of assorted chocolates from fairafric, you will receive four different chocolate bars: a mild dark chocolate bar with 70 % cocoa, a dark chocolate bar with 70 % & cocoa nibs, a dark chocolate bar with 80 % and a bar with cashew cream with 42 % cocoa. Each is completely produced and packaged in Ghana. The export is taken care of by fairafric. The German company has been in Ghana since 2016 and in 2020 it opened a new solar-powered factory with almost 100 employees. Each bar weighs 80 grams.

Sustainability and supply chain

Producers
Grown by 1101 family farmers on an average of 2.5 ha in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
Cultivation
Organic, agroforestry, non-irrigated fields, manually harvested.
Processing
Fully processed on site, solar-powered packaging operation in Amanase - Suhum, non-plastic packaging. 100% of employees have an employment contract, wages on par with minimum wage or better.
Purchasing & Logistics
Purchasing from processor since 2017. Transport: by lorry to Accra, by ship to Europe, by lorry to Embrach/Singen.

Since I started farming organically, my yields have improved.

"I live in a small concrete house that my husband built and farm a plot of two hectares. Being a farmer is practical because I grow fresh foods like bananas and cassava for my own use. And I can sell some of what I grow. Still, it's not enough to live on. I wish I had another way to make a living because labour has become very expensive recently. But I have to hire workers because I'm not strong enough to do strenuous farm work."
