An important focus of the project is the training of smallholder farmers and the establishment and support of the local cooperative. In such trainings, the cocoa producers learn how to better care for their fields and how to combat diseases in a natural way.
Many farmers have low cocoa yields because the trees in their fields are old or planted too sparsely. For this reason, the project also supports planting seedlings to rejuvenate the fields and thus make them more profitable in the long term.
In a professional nursery, seedlings are grown from cocoa beans over several months - for this planting cycle 25,000 pieces. Now, at the beginning of the rainy season, the trees are being planted. The young trees are placed in a deep hole so that rainwater accumulates and the seedlings can establish well. In Wome the organic farmers work collectively: today in one person's field, tomorrow in another's. This way the work progresses efficiently.
