To this day he and his wife Beate Mayer are considered "exotics" among the asparagus farmers of the Abensberg region; they are the only ones who grow organic asparagus. And even the local customers have a hard time with organic: "Here everyone gets theirs from local farmers, but nobody pays a higher price for organic," says Sepp Keil in his broad Bavarian dialect. But stop with organic? The organic farmer wouldn't dream of that: "I've already struggled too much for that," he thinks and laughs.
The collaboration with gebana is for Beate Mayer, who handles marketing, more than an additional sales channel. She wishes for customers who appreciate the product she cultivates with great dedication: "My goal this year is not to sell asparagus to organic supermarkets for their promotional offers," says Beate Mayer and explains: "They force down our prices to dump the product. There is no appreciation at all!"
Sepp Keil and Beate Mayer ship their excellent, freshly harvested white organic asparagus from the banks of the Danube in May. We are pleased to be able to offer you this extraordinary product from committed producers who share our values!
