For a month tension and worries had also grown at gebana Maghreb in Kebili, where our dates come from. Our processing plants had to close temporarily.
On Friday evening Taieb Foudhaili, the local managing director, could clearly be heard to feel relieved:
“We have come through the situation with little damage, but gained a lot. Finally we are free. Now comes the time when we must rethink many things and begin anew. The signs are good for this, the people stand together: women, men, a large number of young people, farmers and workers, entrepreneurs and doctors and the unemployed have demonstrated side by side.
It is now up to us to shape our future in freedom and brotherhood. We want to show that we can do better in all areas. The people are aware of their great tasks. Over the weekend the youth organized and cleaned the streets. We have also resumed work. We thank our friends in Europe for their support and are proud of this friendship.”
We wish our friends in Kebili much luck on their path to a democratic future!
