Mangos
Organic
Spain
Fresh organic mangos of the sweet Keitt and Kent varieties, as well as the tangy and aromatic Osteen variety. The fruit comes from family farmers in the region around the southern Spanish town of Motril in Andalusia. It is delivered straight to your door, with no detours.
Variety mix:
- September: 4 kg Kent and 4 kg Osteen
- October: 4 kg Keitt and 4 kg Osteen
- November: 8 kg Keitt
The family farmers are members of the Procam cooperative, which brings together around 200 organic producers. The cooperative has been in existence since 1983 and has specialised in organic farming since 2007. It supports its members by providing advice on organic farming and operates its own packing facility.
All members of the cooperative are certified to the GlobalGAP standards GRASP and SPRING: GRASP assesses basic social standards such as employment contracts and accommodation for harvest workers. SPRING is a standard for the responsible use of water, which, in Procam’s case, comes from the Rules and Beznar reservoirs in the Sierra Nevada.
Note
This is the first time we are testing mangos from Spain. As is always the case with a trial import, we will contact you after delivery with a questionnaire and look forward to your honest feedback.

Use & preparation
- If too many mangos ripen at once: peel the fruit, chop it into small pieces and freeze it. Use the frozen cubes to make smoothies or ice lollies; they go well with frozen banana. Simply blend them together whilst still frozen in a high-powered blender.
- Add them to curries for a fruity touch, or use them to make pickled mango or a chutney.
Storage & shelf life
Store the fruit in a well-ventilated place at room temperature. They lose their flavour in the fridge. Mangos will keep for around six to ten days this way. They will ripen more quickly if kept near apples or pears. You can tell when mangos are ripe by their strong scent and the fact that their flesh gives slightly when pressed. Check your mangos for bruises and minor damage as soon as you receive them. Eat damaged and ripe fruit first.
