In western Crete, we have found a network of family farmers who specialise in avocados. Following a successful first import in 2025, we are now fully committed to this region and are phasing out our supply chain in Kenya.

Fresh organic Fuerte avocados from family farmers in the region around the town of Chania on the Greek island of Crete. The family farmers grow the avocados on very small plots averaging 1.2 hectares.
Avocado trees in Crete generally need to be watered from August to mid-September. In dry years, this can sometimes be as early as July or even May. During the other months, there is sufficient rainfall and soil moisture for them to manage without irrigation.
The family farmers rely on drip irrigation and are in weekly contact with the University of Crete, which issues recommendations on irrigation. The families are also working on rainwater harvesting systems so that, in the long term, they will no longer need to use groundwater.
The avocado packing plant is not connected to the mains electricity supply. The necessary energy is provided by solar panels, making the facility carbon-neutral. Furthermore, the avocados are washed without water. The plant is operated by three family farmers.
The avocados arrive at your doorstep still firm; you’ll need to let them ripen yourself.

How much is that?
5 kilos is about 12 to 30 avocados. The number varies depending on the size of the fruit.

Use & preparation
- Fresh avocado on bread with a little lime juice, salt and pepper. A little nut butter rounds it off.
- Enjoy it sweet in a smoothie or as classic guacamole with maize crisps: mash ripe avocados with a fork, then season with lime juice, salt and pepper.
Storage & shelf life
If stored in a cool place in the vegetable drawer of the fridge, the fruit will keep for around 10 days. Store the avocados you intend to eat soon at room temperature in a paper bag together with apples. As soon as you can press the flesh in slightly, the fruit is ripe. Check your avocados for bruises and minor damage as soon as you receive them. Eat these ones first. If you spot any mould, remove the affected fruits from the box.
