Cashews
Organic
Burkina Faso
Whole, natural organic cashews. Ideal for pure enjoyment or for adding to muesli, cakes, salads, curries and much more.
Our organic cashews come from around 3,000 family farmers in the Hauts-Bassins, Sud-Ouest, Cascades and Centre-Ouest regions of Burkina Faso. The families deliver their raw cashews directly to gebana Burkina Faso in Bobo-Dioulasso, where they are shelled, peeled, sorted, and packaged on site in our own factory.
The complete processing in Bobo-Dioulasso creates jobs and opportunities in a country where hardly anyone else is investing. We have been there since 2001, and our own factory opened its doors in 2006. Since 2021, we have been building a new, larger factory that will create 1000 new jobs. The opening is planned for early summer 2025.
By processing locally, we avoid unnecessary transport and the transfer of value creation to Vietnam, where the majority of West African cashews are currently processed.

Use & preparation
- Cashews have a wide range of uses: You can enjoy them pure or roasted, or you can soak them and use them in sweet or savoury dishes for a creamy consistency.
- Cashews are also great for baking, such as these cookies.
Storage & shelf life
Store nuts and seeds in a cool, dark place in a tightly closed container. Make sure that the container is as airtight as possible so that moisture is kept away from the nuts. You can also freeze nuts and seeds, which will extend their shelf life by several months.

COULIBALY ANA WARIBA
FARMER FROM TAGA, BURKINA FASO
I'm looking forward to the cashew harvest!
"I'm only growing cashews on one hectare of land at the moment. I have no other source of income," says Coulibaly Ana Wariba. "I'm planning on buying some land in the future so that I can diversify my fields and protect my family from hunger." The farmer would rather tend to the plants. "Ploughing the fields is too strenuous for me – even with the help of employees. It's much more fun to plant trees or bring in the harvest."

Background

Cashews without detours
We process our cashews where they grow: in Burkina Faso. Unfortunately, this is a rarity in the global trade in these tasty kernels.
